Paul Catherall

Paul Catherall is a Printmaker living and working in London. He studies illustration at Leicester Polytechnic (De Montfort University). What inspires your work as an artist? Monolithic architecture. Post war / mid century design. Strong light and cast shadows on concrete. Who are your biggest influences? Paul Cézanne was an early influence. Edward Wadsworth for his mastery of black & greys. Tom Purvis & Tom Eckersley for their use of colour and graphic skills. Paul Nash for his distinctly English palette. What does your work mean to you? When working on a print it can be all consuming. My work is fun, frustrating, relaxing and completely exhausting but most of all it gives me a sense of achievement (sometimes!) What techniques do you use? I work mainly in linocut - sometimes lithograph and have collaborated on screenprints.
