Barbra, limited edition giclee silkscreen print with diamond dust, iridescent gold and spot varnish by contemporary artist Maria Rivans

Maria Rivans fiercest pin-up yet, starring the supersonic Barbara Streisand! Gazing boldly at the viewer, Barbra’s striking feline
features are echoed in the lions, leopards, and tigers that prowl through the blossoming flowers. Fearless female figures nestle in the headdress too, from Jane Russell admiring the view to the commanding woman who stands at the top of a column. But among
the hard, shining diamonds, slinking cats, and strong women, Rivans adds motifs of vulnerability: the classical nude and the paparazzo’s flashbulb remind us of the pressures of fame and stardom.

Edition of 75

Size: 100cm (h) x 70cm (w)

Maria Rivans

Maria Rivans is a contemporary British artist, known for her scrapbook-style collage aesthetic.  Maria studied 3D design at the University of Brighton and started her career as a jewellery designer. A mash-up of Surrealism meets Pop-Art, Rivans’s work re-appropriates vintage ephemera to create dreamy realms, which transport the viewer into fantastical worlds of the imaginary.  Each piece suffused with vivid colour, arresting imagery, intricate detail, and finished with a dusting of subtle humour. The visual artists who have defined Rivans’ work include: Max Ernst; Frida Kahlo; Robert Rauschenberg; Richard Hamilton; David Hockney; Sarah Lucas; and Tracey Emin.  Maria's influences also span music, film and fashion; David Bowie, Vivienne Westwood, Alfred Hitchcock and David Lynch all having a huge impact on her practice.
